HP Futures Trains Teachers to Strengthen Environmental Education

1 min read

Shimla: Himachal Pradesh has taken another step towards strengthening environmental education in schools under the HP Futures project being implemented through Samagra Shiksha. A two-day “Greening Education” workshop was organised for 57 Eco Club coordinators from schools in Shimla, Solan, Sirmaur and Kinnaur districts.

Held under the guidance of Samagra Shiksha Director Rajesh Sharma, the workshop introduced teachers to the Eco Club for Mission LiFE Activity Calendar (2026–27) and the Greening Education Toolkit, aimed at making environmental education more engaging, practical and activity-based.

Teachers received hands-on training using the PLANTS framework and participated in the EcoGame Innovator Challenge, where they designed innovative games and learning activities focused on environmental conservation. Selected innovations will be featured in the “HP Futures Teacher Changemaker” publication.

The workshop also familiarised participants with the Green School Quality Standard (GSQS) framework and a common Eco Club register format to ensure uniform documentation of activities across schools.

The HP Futures initiative, supported under Samagra Shiksha in collaboration with UNESCO, promotes competency-based learning, values education through sports and environmental sustainability in schools.
