Governance vs Grand Statements: Jairam Thakur Questions Govt Priorities

Mandi, April 12: Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur intensified his attack on the state government during his visit to remote areas of Seraj assembly constituency, alleging that the present administration is focused more on rhetoric than governance.
Interacting with residents of villages including Bagi, Bandal, Khunachi, Dagail, Paleuni Dhar, and Tharapad, Thakur listened to local grievances and assured support for their resolution. He also urged party workers to contest upcoming Panchayat elections with unity and a development-oriented approach.
Targeting the government led by Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Thakur alleged that institutions opened on public demand have been shut down, and accused the government of failing to deliver on its promises. He appealed to voters to respond politically if development works are halted.
Highlighting infrastructure development, he credited the central government under Narendra Modi for expanding road connectivity in remote regions. He cited the completion of key road projects in Seraj, funded through NABARD and central schemes, as examples of sustained development efforts.
Thakur also raised concerns over the condition of roads affected by recent disasters, warning that failure to clear debris before the monsoon could lead to further damage.
Criticizing the government’s functioning, he alleged that several public welfare initiatives have been discontinued and accused leaders of making “excessive statements instead of focusing on work.” He further claimed that repeated attempts to delay elections had failed under judicial scrutiny.
Reiterating BJP’s commitment to development and *antyodaya*, Thakur said the party will take its message to the grassroots and expose what he termed the government’s shortcomings.
