“Golden Decade of Growth Under Modi”: Anurag Thakur Targets Congress at BJP Meet

Mandi: Senior BJP leader and former Union Minister Anurag Thakur, while presenting a national political resolution at the state executive meeting, said that India has witnessed a “golden decade of development” under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, contrasting it with what he termed Congress’ “politics over national interest.”
Thakur alleged that while the Congress attempted to damage India’s image on global platforms, the BJP-led government has enhanced the country’s stature worldwide by prioritizing a “nation first” approach.
Highlighting achievements, he said over 55 crore people have benefited from free healthcare coverage of up to ₹5 lakh annually under Ayushman Bharat, now extended to senior citizens above 70 years.
On the economic front, he noted that India maintained an average GDP growth rate of around 6.5% between 2014 and 2026, with inflation largely remaining within the RBI’s 2–6% target range. He added that foreign exchange reserves have grown from about $304 billion in 2014 to nearly $700 billion, while over $667 billion in FDI has been received, reflecting strong global investor confidence.
Thakur also highlighted a significant increase in capital expenditure—from around ₹2 lakh crore in 2013–14 to over ₹12 lakh crore—boosting infrastructure and job creation.
Citing infrastructure growth, he said the national highway network has expanded from around 91,000 km to over 1.45 lakh km, the number of airports has nearly doubled, and metro services have expanded from 5 cities to over 20 cities.
He further emphasized that flagship schemes like Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Ujjwala Yojana, Har Ghar Jal, Swachh Bharat Mission, and Digital India have significantly improved the lives of the poor, farmers, and middle class.
Concluding his address, Thakur said that while the BJP focuses on development, governance, and transparency, the Congress has been associated with corruption and appeasement politics. He reaffirmed the party’s commitment to making India a leading global power.
