Second phase of census to begin in snow-bound areas from 1st September: CS

Chief Secretary K.K. Pant today chaired a state-level conference to review preparations for the second phase of the census in the snow-bound areas of the state.
He reviewed the administrative arrangements and coordination required for the smooth conduct of the Census. He congratulated the officers and district administrations for successfully completing the first phase and directed to ensure accurate, reliable and timely data.
He said that authentic Census data was vital for social and economic planning, policy-making and budgetary allocation. He directed all concerned officers to ensure that the exercise was carried out with utmost care, coordination and commitment.
The Director of Census Operations Deep Shikha apprised that the first phase of the Census, covering house listing and housing census had been successfully completed. The second phase, covering population enumeration, would be conducted in the snow-bound areas from 1 to 30 September, 2026. The self-enumeration facility would be available on the Census portal from 17 to 31 August.
