Youth Play Crucial Role in Disaster Management: DC Hemraj Bairwa

Dharamshala, April 4: Marking the 121st anniversary of the 1905 Kangra earthquake, the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Kangra organized a Disaster Awareness Day programme at Police Ground, Dharamshala on Saturday. Deputy Commissioner Kangra, Hemraj Bairwa, attended the event as the chief guest.

Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner emphasized that in today’s time, it is essential for people to rely only on authentic sources of information during emergencies. He said that for accurate updates related to disasters, citizens should contact the District Emergency Operations Centre. Highlighting the unpredictable nature of earthquakes, he noted that such disasters can cause massive destruction within seconds, making individual preparedness extremely important.

Focusing on youth participation, Bairwa stated that young people play a pivotal role in disaster management. He encouraged NCC cadets, SDRF personnel, Aapda Mitra volunteers, and other youth groups to undergo proper training and remain ready to serve society during emergencies.

He further informed that the district administration regularly conducts training programmes, which not only enhance disaster response capabilities but also open up career opportunities for participants.

Earlier, the Deputy Commissioner flagged off an awareness rally comprising SDRF teams, NCC cadets, Aapda Mitra volunteers, and a police band. The rally concluded at the Police Ground, Dharamshala.

The event also featured various awareness activities related to earthquakes and other disasters. A street play was performed to educate the public, while SDRF teams demonstrated first aid and CPR techniques. Additionally, the Himachal Pradesh State Disaster Response Force and Fire Services Department showcased equipment used during emergency situations.
