Teachers honoured for outstanding contribution to education

Shahpur, September 5: Shahpur MLA and Deputy Chief Whip Kewal Singh Pathania inaugurated five new courses at Government College, Shahpur, during a programme organised to mark the college’s 20th foundation day.

The newly introduced courses include BBA, BCA, B.Voc, PGDCA and Physical Education. Pathania said the courses would provide students in the area with greater access to vocational and career-oriented education close to home, while also opening up new employment opportunities.

He said Himachal Pradesh had improved its position in the education sector, moving from 21st to fifth nationally under the leadership and guidance of the Chief Minister. He credited teachers for their significant contribution to the achievement and said the Chief Minister and Education Minister deserved appreciation for their efforts.

Pathania said the state government’s initiatives in the education sector were producing positive results. He added that the introduction of the CBSE curriculum in government schools had contributed to an increase in student enrolment.

He said the state government had also taken a significant decision regarding the appointment of professors and assistant professors in universities. Discussions were also underway with a reputed organisation to provide online coaching for competitive examinations to students of Classes VIII, IX and X.

Sihwan to get new PHC building

Pathania announced that a new building for the Primary Health Centre at Sihwan would be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 2.52 crore. He said the foundation stone for the project would be laid shortly.

Teachers honoured on Teachers’ Day

On the occasion, Pathania extended greetings on the birth anniversary of educationist and Bharat Ratna Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan and Teachers’ Day. He acknowledged the contribution of teachers to the education sector and honoured teachers from the Shahpur area for their outstanding work.

Earlier, Pathania inaugurated a hand pump on the college campus and planted a Behda sapling.

College Principal Dr Vishwajeet welcomed the chief guest and other dignitaries. He thanked the Deputy Chief Whip for the introduction of the new courses and provision of the hand pump, and outlined the college’s achievements and development journey over the past 20 years.

During the programme, a two-minute silence was observed in memory of the three youths who lost their lives in the tragic accident in Darini, Shahpur Assembly constituency.
