Shimla July 20
In a significant step toward strengthening rural veterinary services, the Himachal Pradesh Government launched the 1962-Mobile Veterinary Ambulance Service on March 5, 2024. In Shimla district alone, five mobile veterinary ambulances have treated 1,876 animals as of June 30, 2025, covering over 69,000 km across Sunni, Rampur, Rohru, Theog, and urban Shimla. The service, which runs from 9 AM to 5 PM, offers free doorstep veterinary care via a three-member team including a vet, pharmacist, and driver/helper. Emergency support is available through the toll-free number 1962.
This initiative has especially helped stray and injured animals, with successful on-spot surgeries and critical treatments conducted in rural villages.
