Monkey & Langur Menace Grips Shimla, Injured Pedestrian Sparks Fresh Outcry

1 min read

Shimla, May 8, 2025 – The rising menace of stray monkeys, langurs, and dogs in Shimla has sparked growing public concern, especially after a recent attack in the Majyath ward. On Thursday morning, a pedestrian walking home via the railway track was attacked by a langur, resulting in deep injuries on his arm.

Local councillor Anita Sharma confirmed that repeated complaints have been submitted to the Municipal Corporation and Forest Department, but no effective action has been taken to curb the threat. “Despite multiple written and verbal appeals, neither the civic authorities nor the district administration has acted. Even the DC has been approached with a memorandum, but nothing has been done so far,” she said.

Residents are demanding immediate intervention, including relocation of aggressive animals and stricter measures for public safety, as unchecked wildlife-human conflict continues to rise in the city.
