Youth Should Assist Administration in Social Security During War: Major General Kaushik

1 min read

Shimla, May 8, 2025 – In a thought-provoking webinar organized by Umang Foundation, defense expert Major General Atul Kaushik (Retd.) urged Indian youth to volunteer for civil support roles in the event of a war. Addressing nearly 100 students, he emphasized the critical role young people can play in managing social security by aiding the administration during emergencies.

Speaking on the topic *”Youth Responsibility During Wartime”*, Gen. Kaushik stressed the need for youth to help prevent rumors, assist in first aid and rescue operations during air raids, organize blood donation drives, and follow official instructions. “Our armed forces are fully capable of dealing with the enemy at the border, but inside the country, it is the duty of civil society and administration to maintain peace and discipline,” he said.

He cautioned against sharing unverified social media content, especially visuals of troop movements, and urged youths to report such content to cyber cells. “Spreading misinformation can directly aid the enemy. Only trust government-verified information,” he advised.

Highlighting India’s response to recent incidents, Kaushik noted that the killing of Hindu pilgrims in Pahalgam by Pakistani elements was avenged to a great extent through Operation Sindoor. He also encouraged youth to coordinate with police, fire services, and disaster response teams (SDRF) for emergency training and preparedness.

Earlier in the session, he gave an insightful overview of modern warfare and the strategies used by the Indian Army to counter different threats.
