Shimla, April 2: BJP State President Dr. Rajeev Bindal stated that the Waqf Amendment Bill is a step toward safeguarding and benefiting Waqf properties. He highlighted that the 2006 Sachar Committee report and the 2008 Joint Parliamentary Committee findings exposed widespread illegal encroachments on Waqf properties, leading to declining revenues.

Dr. Bindal pointed out that while the 2013 Congress-led government introduced some positive administrative changes, it also reduced participation from women and other stakeholders. He emphasized that the newly passed bill in Parliament would significantly benefit Waqf properties across India by separating private trusts from Waqf, ensuring better management.

He stressed the importance of digitizing Waqf assets under the Central Waqf Board’s control to prevent mismanagement. The bill also aims to grant rights to women in family Waqfs and enhance transparency in governance.

Dr. Bindal further noted that Waqf Board revenues have drastically declined, affecting welfare programs for underprivileged Muslims. He reiterated that the bill is an administrative reform, not a religious issue, and is designed for the benefit of the Muslim community and Waqf institutions.
