Shimla Music Festival 2024: Day Two Mesmerizes Audience with Classical Performances

The Language and Culture Department of Himachal Pradesh hosted the second day of the “Shimla Music Festival 2024” at the Gothic Hall of Gaiety Theatre, Shimla. The event was graced by the Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, Vinay Kumar, as the chief guest, with Mrs. Kamayani Vashisht serving as the event’s anchor.

The evening featured a soulful performance of Raag Bhimpalasi by renowned vocalist Vidyadhar Vyas. Following this, celebrated artists Sunanda Sharma and Rajendra Prasanna enthralled the audience with their musical mastery. Sunanda Sharma, trained in the Banaras gharana and known for her expertise in Khayal, Thumri, Dadra, Chaiti, and Kajri, captivated listeners with her unique approach to classical compositions. Rajendra Prasanna, a master of both the flute and shehnai, left the audience spellbound with his performance.

Dr. Pankaj Lalit, Director of the Language and Culture Department, announced that on the final day, a workshop will be held for school students at 10:30 AM, where Pandit Vidyadhar Vyas will provide training in classical music. The evening will feature a Santoor recital by Abhay Sopori, followed by a traditional Natiya Qawwali performance by the Warsi Brothers, Naseer Ahmed Warsi, and Nazeer Ahmed Warsi.

The event was coordinated by Mrs. Anita Singh, with key officials including Dr. Pankaj Lalit, Joint Director Manjeet Sharma, Assistant Secretary Oshin Sharma, and Deputy Director Alka Kanthla in attendance.
