Cancer awareness programme organised at Shoolini University

The Faculty of Applied Sciences and Biotechnology (FASB), Shoolini University hosted a virtual event on cancer awareness themed “Close the Gap in Care” on Friday.

Dr. Sachin Gupta, Associate Director, Dept. of Medical Oncology and Hemato Oncology, Max Super Specialty Hospital and Dr. Neeladri Das, Research Scholar, Stanford University were the guest speakers for the day.

Prof. Anuradha Sourirajan, Dean of Applied Sciences and Biotechnology, welcomed all speakers and participants and shared information about Shoolini University’s cancer research. She also discussed current cancer treatments and the use of Himalayan medicinal plants as a source of anticancer compounds.

In his opening remarks, Chancellor Prof. PK Khosla provided scientific and spiritual insights into cancer biology.

Dr. Sachin Gupta spoke about “cancer awareness, diagnosis, and treatment,” discussing the signs, symptoms, diagnostic tests, and treatments for various cancers. He also emphasised the harmful effects of toxic chemicals in the environment on our bodies, as well as their role in the development of cancer.

Dr. Neeladri Das delivered a presentation on “Complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) and the role of Indian honey in cancer.” Dr. Das highlighted the significance of complementary and alternative medicine in cancer research. He discussed his research on the anti-cancer properties of floral honey.

More than 83 people attended the session, including students and biotechnology faculty members. The audience peppered the presenters with questions about cancer diagnosis, lifestyle changes, and cancer treatments. Dr. Nitika Thakur and Dr. Lokender Kumar coordinated the session.
