Urban Local Body Polls Announced in Himachal; Voting on May 17

The State Election Commission Himachal Pradesh has announced elections for urban local bodies across Himachal Pradesh, with polling scheduled for **May 17, 2026**. The **Model Code of Conduct** has come into immediate effect following the announcement.
The elections will be conducted across **51 urban bodies**, including **4 Municipal Corporations, 25 Municipal Councils, and 22 Nagar Panchayats**, covering a total of **449 wards** statewide.
As per the official schedule, nomination papers can be filed on **April 29, 30, and May 2**, while scrutiny will be held on **May 4**. The last date for withdrawal of nominations is **May 6**.
Polling will take place from **7:00 AM to 3:00 PM**, with counting expected to begin shortly after voting concludes.
Authorities have directed strict enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct to ensure **free and fair elections**. The announcement has intensified political activity across the state, with parties gearing up for a significant urban electoral contest.
