Una, June 2: Deputy Commissioner and Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority, Jatin Lal, emphasized the importance of coordinated efforts among departments for effective disaster management and response. He said a state-level mega mock drill will be conducted across Himachal Pradesh on June 15 under the guidance of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and the State Disaster Management Authority.
The district will simulate disaster scenarios such as earthquakes, cloudbursts, and forest fires to assess preparedness, resource availability, emergency response mechanisms, and inter-departmental coordination.
Before the mega drill, a tabletop exercise will be held on June 12 to review departmental roles, responsibilities, and disaster response plans. The locations and disaster scenarios for the drill will also be finalized during this exercise.
Jatin Lal said the mock drill will help evaluate the effectiveness of disaster management plans, strengthen coordination among agencies, and enhance rescue and relief operations during real emergencies. Different disaster situations will be enacted at selected locations across all sub-divisions of Una district.
He urged citizens to cooperate during the exercise and remain aware of safety protocols, adding that such drills play a key role in improving public awareness and disaster preparedness.
