ADCs directs banks to expand credit access and strengthen lending to agriculture and entrepreneurs

Una, August 24: Banks in Una district disbursed loans worth Rs 1,203.64 crore during the June quarter of 2026, exceeding the quarterly target of Rs 690.40 crore, Additional Deputy Commissioner Ishan Jaswal said.

Jaswal chaired a meeting of the District Level Review Committee and District Level Bank Advisory Committee at the DRDA Hall to review the performance of banks during the first quarter.

The district’s total deposits increased to Rs 17,120.97 crore, registering an annual growth of 10.70 per cent, while total outstanding credit rose by 16.19 per cent to Rs 5,535.56 crore. However, the credit-deposit ratio stood at 32.33 per cent, below the national benchmark.

The ADC directed banks and concerned government departments to make coordinated efforts to improve the credit-deposit ratio and ensure that more people benefit from available loan and government-sponsored schemes.

Focus on agriculture and Kisan Credit Cards

Jaswal stressed the need to strengthen agricultural lending, noting that agriculture credit in the district stood at Rs 1,032.36 crore, accounting for 18.65 per cent of total credit.

Banks were directed to promote lending for agricultural mechanisation, infrastructure, farm investment and Kisan Credit Cards. Under the ‘Kheti Bachao’ campaign, banks were asked to conduct a special drive through the Krishika app to facilitate new Kisan Credit Cards and ensure that eligible farmers receive timely financial support.

The ADC also emphasised expanding digital lending facilities and promoting technology-based access to credit.

Banks were directed to undertake a special drive to ensure nomination details are recorded in savings and deposit accounts. Jaswal also called for faster and simpler settlement of claims related to deceased account holders so that eligible family members do not face unnecessary difficulties.

The ADC instructed banks to ensure time-bound disposal of loan applications received under government-sponsored schemes and make active efforts to extend credit support for self-employment and entrepreneurship.

Cyber fraud awareness also reviewed

The meeting also reviewed the growing threat of cyber fraud. Banks were directed to regularly educate customers about digital security, safe banking practices and measures to prevent cybercrime.

Jaswal later chaired a review meeting of PNB RSETI and took stock of its activities and performance.
