Suzanpur to Get Bus Stand After Nearly 50 Years of Wait

Modern bus stand being constructed at a cost of ₹5.45 crore

Hamirpur, September 3: After nearly five decades of waiting, the historic town of Sujanpur in Himachal Pradesh is finally set to get a modern bus stand. Construction of the new facility is currently progressing at a fast pace as per the directions of Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.

Known across the country for its sprawling historic ground, forts, temples and Sainik School, Sujanpur has long been in need of a permanent bus stand. The town witnesses the daily movement of a large number of inter-state and local buses, serving not only Hamirpur district but also several areas of Kangra district, including Jaisinghpur, Dhera, Nagrota, Palampur and Baijnath, as well as areas of Jogindernagar and Dharampur subdivisions in Mandi district.

Despite the longstanding need, consensus on a suitable site for the bus stand could not be reached for several decades. As a result, bus services in the important town continued to operate from a temporary bus stand.

After assuming office nearly four years ago, Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu directed officials to explore the possibilities for constructing a bus stand in Sujanpur. Following extensive consultations, Doli was identified as the site for the project.

After the site was finalised, the Chief Minister laid the foundation stone for the bus stand on March 12, 2025, on the occasion of the inauguration of the national-level Holi festival in Sujanpur.

Construction of the much-awaited bus stand is now progressing rapidly, with around ₹5.45 crore being spent on the project. The modern inter-state bus stand is expected to provide improved facilities for commuters and strengthen transport connectivity in the region.

The project has become possible due to the determination and vision of Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, according to the administration.
