Storytelling and Musical Band Performances Inspire School Students at Shimla’s Gaiety Theatre

Shimla, September 27, 2025 — The Department of Language and Culture inaugurated a special program for school students at the historic Gaiety Theatre this weekend, featuring storytelling sessions and musical band performances aimed at fostering creativity and connecting the youth with local culture.

The event was inaugurated by former IAS officer, senior litterateur, and theatre artist Srinivas Joshi, who lit the ceremonial lamp. Shimla District Language Officer Anil Harta informed that the storytelling sessions encouraged students from five city schools and Government Girls College, Shimla, to engage with stories like Kora Kagaz, inspiring them in story writing and effective use of time. Students also interacted with the storyteller, learning the nuances of crafting narratives. Participants Aditya and Amrit Anjali shared analytical observations on the story.

On the Muktakash stage, students from Government Girls Adarsh Senior Secondary School, Portmore, showcased musical band performances, folk songs, and traditional dance, delighting hundreds of visitors and audience members. The students were dressed in authentic traditional attire, highlighting Himachal Pradesh’s rich cultural heritage.

The department announced that such cultural events for students will be organized every weekend. The program was also attended by Deputy Director Kusum Singhayak, Sarojna Narwal, cultural organizer Jaswinder Singh, Drama Inspector Kishore Kumar, Bhupesh Sharma, and Devendra Kumar Dev.
