‘People Have Made Up Their Mind to Oust Congress’: Jai Ram Thakur Targets Sukhu Government

Una, October 31: Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur on Saturday criticised the Congress government over alleged deterioration in law and order, corruption and delays in development works. Addressing a press conference in Una, he claimed that public dissatisfaction with the government was growing across Himachal Pradesh.

Thakur cited recent criminal incidents in Una, Bilaspur, Shimla and Chamba to question the state’s law-and-order situation. He also alleged that drug abuse and corruption had increased, and raised concerns over alleged violations of Section 118 and irregularities in the Pekhubela project.

On the issue of employees’ benefits, he said the state government must implement the Supreme Court’s ruling in favour of employees. He also questioned delays in salary and pension payments.

Responding to questions on Revenue Deficit Grant (RDG) and GST compensation, Thakur said the discontinuation of RDG was a nationwide decision and accused the state government of misrepresenting the issue. He claimed that Himachal Pradesh had received substantially higher central assistance during the tenure of the BJP-led Union government.

He further said that several major development projects, including roads and the Bulk Drug Park in Una, were supported by the Centre.

Thakur also criticised remarks made by Congress leaders regarding the illness of Una MLA and former BJP state president Satpal Singh Satti, calling them unfortunate. He said he had visited Satti at his residence to enquire about his health and wish him a speedy recovery.
