Una, August 22: The HPV (Human Papillomavirus) vaccination campaign being implemented in Una district for the prevention of cervical cancer has gained momentum, with more than 1,250 eligible girls vaccinated so far.
The district administration and Health Department, in coordination with the Education Department and other stakeholders, are conducting special vaccination drives in schools. Awareness sessions are also being organised for girls, parents and teachers on HPV infection, vaccination and prevention of cervical cancer.
Chief Medical Officer Una Dr Sanjeev Verma said the nationwide HPV vaccination campaign aims to protect eligible girls in the 14–15 age group from cervical cancer. The campaign is being implemented across Una with a focus on reaching eligible beneficiaries in a timely manner.
Appealing to parents to rely on authentic medical information, Dr Verma said the HPV vaccine is scientifically established and plays an important role in preventing cervical cancer. He urged parents not to be influenced by rumours or misleading information and to rely on information provided by health authorities.
Under ‘Mission 4500’, Una district has set a target of vaccinating 4,500 eligible girls aged 14 to 15 years. The Health Department is working in coordination with the Education Department, Panchayati Raj institutions, ICDS, social organisations and other stakeholders to achieve the target within the stipulated period.
The administration has called for continued community participation and inter-departmental coordination to ensure that maximum eligible girls receive the HPV vaccine.
