DC Calls for Collective Action Against HIV Stigma

Shimla, September 11: Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap on Friday called for collective efforts to eliminate discrimination and social stigma against people living with HIV/AIDS.

Chairing a meeting of MAS, the District AIDS Prevention and Control Committee (DAPCC) and the District Community Resource Group, Kashyap stressed stronger coordination among departments and stakeholders for HIV/AIDS prevention, awareness, counselling and testing services.

He said awareness remains the most effective tool for HIV prevention and directed departments to expand awareness activities and ensure that accurate, scientific information reaches all sections of society. He also urged people to avoid misconceptions about HIV/AIDS and seek timely testing and treatment when required.

The meeting also reviewed activities being implemented in Shimla district in accordance with National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO) guidelines.

National Deworming Day preparations reviewed

A district task force meeting also reviewed preparations for the National Deworming Day (NDD) and HPV vaccination campaign. The first phase of NDD will be held on September 18, 2026, across government, aided and private schools and Anganwadi centres.

Children aged 1-19 years will be administered albendazole, while children aged 1-5 years will also receive Vitamin A supplementation. The campaign will be jointly implemented by the Health, Women and Child Development, and Education departments.

According to the district fact sheet, Shimla has 2,105 government schools, 450 private schools, 2,154 Anganwadi centres and 997 ASHA workers for the campaign. The target is to cover 2,15,738 children aged 1-19 years with albendazole and 51,660 children aged 1-5 years with Vitamin A.
