Mega Mock Drill Conducted in Chamba to Test Emergency Response Mechanism
1 min readChamba, April 28: A large-scale mock drill was conducted in Chamba district to strengthen rapid emergency response and disaster preparedness. The exercise was jointly organized by the district administration and National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) Projects Chamera-2 and 3, simulating flood-like conditions in the Ravi River following heavy rainfall and cloudburst.
The scenario also included landslides on NH-154A and fire due to a short circuit at the Chamera-2 power project. The drill tested coordination, operational readiness, and real-time response among multiple agencies. Teams from CISF, NDRF, fire services, police, home guards, and health departments were mobilized swiftly to staging areas, including Kariyan Helipad and affected sites.
Rescue teams carried out coordinated evacuation operations near the Ravi riverbanks and project sites, following standard safety protocols to handle high water flow and emergency conditions. The exercise highlighted the importance of preparedness, inter-agency coordination, and timely response in mitigating disaster risks.
