Three-Day Block-Level Under-19 Boys’ Sports Competition Begins at Bhumti

Solan, August 30, 2026: Arki MLA Sanjay Awasthi said sports and other constructive activities play an important role in keeping young people away from social evils such as drug abuse. He said the state government is making every possible effort to encourage youth participation in sports.

Awasthi was speaking after inaugurating a three-day block-level Under-19 boys’ sports competition at Government Model Senior Secondary School, Bhumti, in Arki Assembly constituency. A total of 334 players from 22 schools are participating in the competition.

He said sports are an important means of ensuring the holistic development of students and help develop qualities such as discipline, leadership, self-confidence, cooperation and team spirit. He added that rural areas of Himachal Pradesh have no shortage of sporting talent and that young athletes need appropriate platforms and opportunities to showcase their abilities.

The MLA urged participants to take part in the competition in the true spirit of sportsmanship and give their best without worrying about victory or defeat. He said regular participation in sports promotes a healthy and disciplined lifestyle and helps keep youth away from substance abuse.

Awasthi said promoting sports alongside education in Arki Assembly constituency remains one of his priorities. Efforts are being made to provide students with better facilities for sports and other co-curricular activities in addition to quality education.

Before the inauguration, Awasthi received the salute during the march past and interacted with players from the participating schools, wishing them success in the competition.

On the occasion, Awasthi announced ₹3 lakh for additional parking construction in Gram Panchayat Bhumti and ₹21,000 for the organising committee. He also announced the provision of 41 sports dresses for students of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Bhumti, and assured support for establishing an open gym. He further announced ₹5,100 from his discretionary fund for children who presented cultural performances during the event.

The MLA also heard the grievances of local residents and directed the concerned departmental officers to ensure their resolution on priority.

Earlier, Awasthi participated in a blood donation camp organised by the Sant Nirankari Mission, Arki unit. He highlighted the importance of voluntary blood donation in helping save lives and urged people to come forward and donate blood.
