Lightning Strikes Claim Lives of Livestock in Kangra District

Kangra, Sept. 17 – Due to adverse weather conditions in certain areas of the Kangra district, lightning strikes have resulted in the loss of livestock. Superintendent of Police Shalini Agnihotri reported that apart from this, information has been received about the deaths of approximately 100 to 150 sheep and goats belonging to three to four families on Rising Star Hills near Narwana in Dharamshala.

She mentioned that upon receiving information about the incident, a team comprising police, a veterinarian, revenue officials, and local residents was dispatched to the scene on Sunday morning. She clarified that as of now, there have been no reports of any human fatalities in this incident. Once the team returns from the site, further actions will be taken accordingly.

Shalini Agnihotri also informed that on Friday, two individuals lost their lives due to lightning strikes in Galadhar, a location in Palampur. During the incident, two other family members who were present at the scene were also injured and subsequently taken to the hospital in critical condition. The incident was reported to the Panchayat Pradhan by these individuals, and the bodies have been returned to their families after post-mortem examinations were conducted at CHC Gopalpur by the police. Further legal proceedings have been initiated to facilitate the last rites of the deceased.

These unfortunate incidents serve as a reminder of the need for safety precautions during adverse weather conditions, particularly in hilly regions like Himachal Pradesh.
