JUIT Faculty, Student Honoured at Chief Minister Educational Conclave

Solan, Sept. 27: Jaypee University of Information Technology (JUIT), Waknaghat, received recognition for its contributions to sustainable technology and student development at the Chief Minister Educational Conclave organised by the Himachal Pradesh Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Commission (HPPERC) on September 25.

JUIT faculty members Prof. Sudhir Syal and Prof. Ashish Kumar received the Award of Excellence from MP Anurag Sharma for their work in installing biogas reactors with a cumulative capacity of around 31 cubic metres across Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh and Uttar Pradesh.

Their research focuses on developing biogas solutions suited to hilly and rural areas, combining food-waste management with renewable energy generation and decentralised waste-to-energy applications. Along with their team, they have executed three funded research projects and two patents in the field.

The practical relevance of the technology was also demonstrated during the recent LPG shortage, when biogas digesters installed on the JUIT campus were used to prepare tea for faculty and staff.

On the occasion, B.Tech CSE student and cadet Ananya Negi was also honoured for representing Himachal Pradesh at the national level under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports’ “Know Your Leader” programme. Held at the Central Hall of Parliament in New Delhi, the programme brought together participants from different States and Union Territories and included an interactive session with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.

Prof. Syal and Prof. Kumar expressed gratitude to JUIT CEO Manu Bhaskar Gaur and Vice-Chancellor Prof. R.K. Sharma for supporting research in sustainable technologies for rural development.

The recognitions highlight JUIT’s work in connecting research and innovation with practical solutions for sustainability, while also encouraging students to participate in national-level academic and leadership platforms.
