Legal Aid Clinic students gain courtroom exposure during visit to Lok Adalat in Solan

Students of the School of Law, Shoolini University, gained firsthand exposure to the justice delivery system during an educational visit to the Lok Adalat held at the District Court, Solan, on September 12. The visit was organised by the Legal Aid Clinic, School of Law, to provide students with practical insight into alternative dispute resolution and the settlement of disputes through mutual consent.
The visit sought to connect classroom learning with courtroom practice by enabling students to observe how Lok Adalats facilitate the speedy, amicable and cost-effective resolution of disputes. During the proceedings, they observed the process of settlement and gained an understanding of the judicial and procedural aspects involved in resolving cases through compromise.
The students witnessed proceedings involving property and partition disputes, family and matrimonial matters, motor accident compensation claims, money recovery cases, bank and loan matters, compoundable criminal cases and other civil disputes.
The proceedings were observed before Mr Abhay Mandiyal, Additional District and Sessions Judge-I; Ms Divya Jyoti Patial, Civil Judge-cum-Chief Judicial Magistrate; Mr Vivek Khanal, Additional District and Sessions Judge-II; Ms Nikita Tahim, Judicial Magistrate First Class; and Shri Sharad Kumar, District and Sessions Judge. The experience gave students an insight into the roles of judges and advocates in facilitating settlements, recording statements and helping parties reach mutually acceptable resolutions.
Mr Vineet Kumar, Coordinator, Legal Aid Clinic, coordinated the visit, with Dr Ritu Panta and Ms Nidhi Singh, Assistant Professors, School of Law, accompanying the students.
Expressing gratitude for the support extended to the initiative, the Legal Aid Clinic acknowledged Prof P.K. Khosla, Chancellor, Shoolini University; Prof Atul Khosla, Vice Chancellor; Prof Kamal Jeet Singh, Dean, School of Law and Prof Renu Pal Sood, for their continued encouragement of activities promoting legal awareness, community engagement and socially relevant legal education.
Prof Kamal Jeet Singh, Dean, School of Law, said the visit provided students with a meaningful “Classroom to Courtroom” experience and helped them understand that legal practice involves more than knowledge of statutes and procedures. He said exposure to actual proceedings enables future legal professionals to appreciate the importance of negotiation, conciliation, empathy and responsible participation in the justice delivery process.
