Himachal Government Politicising Central Financial Assistance: Jairam Thakur

Hamirpur, October 4: Former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur has accused the state’s Congress government of taking political credit for development projects funded by the Centre. He alleged that Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu had failed to acknowledge the Centre’s financial support to the state.

In a press statement issued from Hamirpur, Thakur claimed that substantial central assistance had been provided for road construction, maintenance and infrastructure development. He said the state government should acknowledge the Centre’s contribution while inaugurating and laying foundation stones for projects funded through central allocations.

Expressing concern over the state’s financial condition, Thakur alleged that the government was unable to contribute ₹30 crore towards the Central University at Dharamshala and meet its 10 per cent share in railway projects.

He said central funding, including assistance under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, had played a significant role in improving road infrastructure across the state. Referring to his recent meeting with Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari in Delhi, he said the minister had reviewed ongoing road projects and directed officials to address issues faced by local residents.

Thakur also cited development projects worth ₹232.93 crore in the Rampur Assembly constituency, claiming that their entire funding had come from the Centre. He alleged that the state government was taking political credit for projects approved through the efforts of BJP MP Suresh Kashyap.
