Dharamshala, May 29: Additional Deputy Commissioner Vinay Kumar chaired a district-level meeting of the National Narcotics Coordination Portal (NCORD) at the NIC Auditorium in Dharamshala to review measures being taken to curb drug abuse and trafficking in Kangra district.

The meeting focused on strengthening inter-departmental coordination and developing multi-pronged strategies to protect youth from the growing menace of substance abuse.

Vinay Kumar said officials from various departments would visit schools in 44 identified panchayats to educate students about the harmful effects of drugs and encourage them to adopt healthy and positive lifestyles. He stressed the need to strengthen contact tracing in drug-related cases to dismantle supply chains and ensure strict action against offenders.

He stated that the district administration and police are continuously conducting operations against drug traffickers. Strict action is also being taken against illegal encroachments linked to drug peddlers, while government employees found involved in such activities would face disciplinary action as per rules.

Highlighting the importance of the SAMVAAD (Systematic Adolescent Management and Value Addition Dialogue) programme, the ADC directed the Education Department to activate Prahari Clubs in schools and organise regular awareness activities under the initiative.

Schools have also been instructed to immediately report any drug-related activities within or around their campuses and to conduct regular workshops and counselling sessions for students on the dangers of substance abuse.

Vinay Kumar further informed that anti-drug awareness hoardings are being installed in panchayats across the district to spread awareness about the social, economic and health impacts of drug addiction. He also emphasised the need for regular inspections of private de-addiction centres and the establishment of an effective monitoring mechanism for monthly evaluation of their functioning.
