Jairam Thakur Criticizes Sukhu Government’s Unmet Promises and Mounting Debt
1 min readShimla, November 2, 2024: Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition, Jairam Thakur, launched a scathing critique of the Congress government led by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. He urged the Chief Minister to revisit Congress’s promises and statements made to the people of Himachal Pradesh. Thakur stated that Congress’s lofty guarantees, such as job creation, women’s financial support, free electricity, and interest-free loans for youth, have not been fulfilled. Instead, he claims the Sukhu government has accumulated over INR 25,000 crore in debt within 22 months, impacting the state’s economic health.
Thakur further accused the Congress of failing to uphold its commitments and misleading the public, stating that the government’s hollow guarantees have eroded trust. He pointed out discrepancies in benefits promised versus delivered and claimed that even the Congress’s top leadership has acknowledged the impact of unfulfilled promises on their reputation. Concluding his statement, Thakur called for honesty from the Sukhu government, urging it to focus on genuine developmental efforts rather than making further empty promises.
