Jairam Thakur Alleges Development Standstill and Public Distress Under Sukhu Government

Mandi, May 24: Former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur on Saturday intensified his attack on the Congress-led Sukhu government, alleging that the state is facing administrative failure, stalled development and increasing financial burden on the public due to “false guarantees and anti-people policies.”

During his visit to various areas of the Seraj Assembly constituency, Jairam Thakur interacted with local residents and claimed that people across the state are disappointed with the functioning of the present government.

In a statement issued from Mandi, the BJP leader alleged that the Congress government has failed to deliver any major development achievement during its three-and-a-half-year tenure. He accused the government of shutting down over 2,000 institutions, abolishing thousands of posts and failing to generate employment opportunities for youth.

Jairam Thakur further claimed that the Congress government had promised 300 units of free electricity before the elections but later discontinued the 125 units of free power being provided during the previous BJP government. He alleged that rising electricity charges and additional taxes have increased financial pressure on poor and middle-class families.

Criticising the state government over taxation, the former Chief Minister said additional cess and charges imposed on electricity, hotels, private hospitals, petrol pumps and commercial establishments are adversely affecting both the public and the state economy.

The Leader of Opposition also questioned the implementation of election promises related to monthly financial assistance for women and employment generation for youth. He alleged that despite making major guarantees before the elections, the government has failed to fulfil them.

Jairam Thakur accused the Congress government of misusing government machinery and making announcements during the election period in violation of the model code of conduct. He urged the Election Commission to take cognisance of the matter.

He further alleged that despite receiving funds from the central government, the state administration has failed to utilise resources effectively for public welfare and development works.

Referring to recent local body elections, Jairam Thakur claimed that people have rejected the Congress government and asserted that the BJP would receive strong support in the upcoming Panchayati Raj institution elections as well.
