Industrial Visit to SCL Mohali Offers Insight into Semiconductor Manufacturing

The Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering (ECE) at Jaypee University of Information Technology (JUIT) Waknaghat organized an enriching industrial visit to Semiconductors Limited (SCL) Laboratory located in Mohali, Punjab. On April 26, 2024, undergraduate, postgraduate, and Ph.D. students from the ECE discipline were given the opportunity to explore the operations of SCL.
The visit, spearheaded by Prof. Rajiv Kumar (HoD, ECE) and Dr. Pardeep Garg (Assistant Professor, ECE), saw the participation of 30 students along with faculty members Dr. Harsh Sohal, Dr. Vikas Baghel, Dr. Nishant Jain, Dr. Alok Kumar, Mr. Munish Sood, and Mr. Kamlesh Srivastava (Lab staff member).
SCL officials warmly welcomed the JUIT team and provided a comprehensive presentation on the company’s functioning and plant layout. As an autonomous society under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), SCL boasts over 40 years of experience as a semiconductor Integrated Device Manufacturer (IDM). With two wafer fabrication lines, SCL produces a variety of CMOS devices and MEMS devices for diverse applications.
During the plant visit, the JUIT team observed the operations of the Dicing unit, Testing unit, and Fabrication unit for VLSI chips & MEMS devices. Discussions ensued regarding potential internships and placement opportunities for ECE students, further enhancing the practical exposure of the JUIT team to the semiconductor industry.
Expressing gratitude, the JUIT team thanked the company officials and HR Manager for the insightful visit, which provided valuable insights into the emerging field of semiconductors and VLSI technology.
