Hamirpur, January 15: Addressing a public gathering on the occasion of Indian Army Day at Sujanpur Chaugan, organized by the Sarv Kalyankari Trust, Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur lauded the Indian Army’s role in making the country one of the world’s most powerful nations. He emphasized that while citizens enjoy comfort, the Army works tirelessly in extreme geographical conditions to protect the nation.

Thakur highlighted that Indian Army Day is celebrated on January 15 to honor the valor, discipline, and sacrifices of the armed forces. He recalled that in 1949, Field Marshal KM Cariappa took command of the Indian Army, marking a historic milestone.

Speaking about Himachal Pradesh’s contribution, Thakur noted that every household in the “Land of the Brave” has a connection with the Indian Army. He also praised the Modi government for modernizing the military, addressing long-pending issues like ‘One Rank, One Pension,’ and empowering the Army to take decisive action, including cross-border operations.

The event, chaired by Lt. Gen. BS Jaswal (Retd.), saw the presence of special guest Anurag Thakur, Brigadier Khushal Chand, MPs Harsh Mahajan, and other dignitaries. Several retired military officers were honored during the ceremony.

Thakur also criticized the Congress government in Himachal, alleging failure on multiple fronts, including unfulfilled election promises and halting development. He asserted that if elections were held today, Congress would struggle to cross double digits.
