High Court Acquits Convict Serving 10 Years for Possessing Narcotics

The Himachal Pradesh High Court has acquitted a convict who was serving a 10-year sentence for possessing narcotics. The court has ordered the immediate release of the convict. The decision was delivered by Justices Tarlok Singh Chauhan and Ranjan Sharma. The High Court accepted the appeal of Yashpal, also known as Sonu, in the case where he was convicted of possessing 217 kilograms of cannabis. Yashpal had previously been sentenced to ten years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of one lakh rupees for this offense. Yashpal had filed an appeal in the High Court against this decision.

Upon reviewing the records related to the case, the High Court found that the prosecution side failed to establish the charges of possessing narcotics in the lower court. The court stated that an accused cannot be considered guilty until there is concrete evidence against them. The High Court set aside the lower court’s decision and accepted the appeal of the accused.

Seven Additional Sessions Judges Appointed as Ad Hoc Additional District and Sessions Judges

The High Court has appointed seven Additional Sessions Judges as ad hoc Additional District and Sessions Judges. Previously, these judges were serving as ad hoc Additional District and Sessions Judges based on temporary appointments. The appointment as ad hoc Additional District and Sessions Judges is for a period of two years. The notification issued by the High Court lists the following judges who have been appointed to these positions: Sapna Pandey, Pratap Singh Thakur, Arvind Kumar, Parvinder Singh Aroda, Hoshiyar Singh Verma, Yajuvendra Singh, and Hitendra Sharma.
