Hamirpur, August 7: The upcoming Dr. Radhakrishnan Government Medical College campus at Jol Sappar is being developed as a comprehensive healthcare and medical education hub, bringing together multiple specialised institutions at one location. The initiative aims to provide advanced medical care to patients while creating world-class opportunities for medical education, research and training.
Envisioned as a flagship project of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, the new campus will house not only a medical college and hospital but also a Cancer Care Institute, Dental College, Nursing College, Paramedical College, De-addiction and Rehabilitation Centre, Critical Care Unit, a separate 200-bed Mother and Child Hospital, and several other healthcare facilities.
The state government has also approved eight super-speciality departments for the campus. Around ₹500 crore has already been released for the project, with an additional ₹500 crore planned for the construction of various institutional blocks in the coming phase.
Construction of the academic block and hospital building has been completed, and installation of modern medical equipment and furniture is currently underway. Once completed, most departments of the existing medical college and hospital will be shifted to the new campus.
Work is also progressing rapidly on the Critical Care Block, auditorium and other buildings. The government has released ₹90 crore for the Cancer Care Institute, while formalities for constructing the administrative block, hostels and other infrastructure are nearing completion.
The campus is expected to offer advanced facilities, including super-speciality services and robotic surgery, positioning the institution among the leading healthcare and medical education centres in North India.
Besides providing state-of-the-art treatment to patients, the integrated campus will also play a key role in producing highly skilled doctors, dentists, nurses and paramedical professionals.
