Governor visits Bhakra Dam to review power generation infrastructure

Governor Kavinder Gupta today visited the iconic Bhakra Dam, one of the largest gravity dams in Asia and a landmark achievement of independent India’s engineering heritage located on the Sutlej River in Bilaspur district.

During the visit, the Governor was briefed on the dam’s operational status, current water storage levels, power generation capacity and the maintenance work being carried out to ensure its safety and efficient functioning. He was informed about the dam’s important role in supplying irrigation water, drinking water and hydroelectric power to several northern states.

The Governor undertook a detailed inspection inside the dam and visited the turbines and power stations located within the structure. He reviewed the power generation machinery working and appreciated the dedication and technical expertise of the engineers and maintenance staff responsible for the uninterrupted functioning of this vital national asset.

Speaking on the occasion, Sh. Gupta said that Bhakra Dam stands as a symbol of the vision and determination of the builders of modern India. He said that the dam continues to serve millions of people across Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh by providing water for irrigation, drinking purposes and power generation, supporting both agriculture and industry.

The Governor stressed the importance of water conservation and the responsible use of natural resources, especially at a time when the world is facing increasing energy challenges. He appreciated the efforts of the Bhakra Management Board and its technical teams in maintaining one of the country’s most important infrastructure projects with commitment and professionalism.
