Global Cyclist Somen Debnath Meets Himachal Assembly Speaker, Shares 22-Year Journey

Shimla, August 25: Global cyclist and adventurer Somen Debnath, who has travelled nearly 200,000 kilometres across 191 countries and seven continents, met Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania at his office and shared experiences from his remarkable journey.

A native of the Sundarbans in West Bengal, Debnath began his cycling expedition on May 27, 2004. Over the past 22 years, he has travelled across almost the entire world, with North Korea being the only country he has not visited.

Debnath said his journey is not merely an adventure but also aims to spread awareness about HIV/AIDS and promote Indian culture and heritage across the world. He shared his experiences of different countries, their people and lifestyles, and the growing interest among international communities in India’s cultural heritage.

He also spoke about his earlier journey across all 28 states and five Union Territories of India and his interactions with several Chief Ministers and Governors. He is currently undertaking the second phase of his India journey under his ‘Purnmilaan Bharat’ initiative to observe the changes India has undergone over the past two decades. The journey is scheduled to conclude on May 27, 2027.

Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania appreciated Debnath’s courage, dedication and commitment to social causes. He particularly praised his efforts to promote HIV/AIDS awareness and showcase Indian culture globally, describing such initiatives as inspiring for society and the younger generation.
