Fairs Preserve Cultural Heritage and Strengthen Community Bonds: Vikramaditya Singh
Shimla, August 16, 2026: Public Works and Urban Development Minister Vikramaditya Singh attended the closing ceremony of the Rihali Mela at Shilaghund as the chief guest. He said traditional fairs play an important role in preserving local culture, folk traditions and heritage while promoting social harmony and community participation.
The minister said administrative and infrastructure-related issues raised by local residents would be reviewed, with a detailed report to be prepared for discussion with the Chief Minister.
Highlighting road connectivity in the Chaupal Assembly constituency, Singh said around Rs 130 crore is being spent on various road projects. This includes the Rs 10 crore Bagri Link Road, for which tender and award formalities have been completed. Funds have also been allocated for the Kargoli Nala-Chambal, Kuthar-Kanauri and Basadhar-Gyankot roads. He further said Rs 239 crore has been sanctioned for the Chaila-Sainj-Neri Bridge-Yashwant Nagar road.
Singh appealed to residents to donate land for road construction and announced that roads would be named after individuals donating more than 10 bighas of land. He also announced Rs 5 lakh for renovation of the local stadium, along with financial assistance for Thoda teams and school students participating in cultural performances.
