DC Mukesh Repaswal Urges Public to Avoid Unnecessary Travel

Chamba | July 28, 2026: Deputy Commissioner Mukesh Repaswal has appealed to residents to remain extremely cautious amid continuous heavy rainfall and avoid unnecessary travel during adverse weather conditions. He advised travellers to stop at a safe location during heavy rain and resume their journey only after the weather improves. Before travelling, people should check the latest road conditions by contacting the district helpline numbers 1077 and 98166 98166.

The Deputy Commissioner said that torrential rain during the previous night caused extensive damage across the district. According to preliminary reports, around 122 roads have been blocked, over 150 electricity distribution transformers have been affected and 65 drinking water schemes have been disrupted. Although landslides had impacted National Highway-154A at several locations, the National Highways Authority restored traffic in time. Restoration work is continuing on a war footing in other affected areas by the Public Works Department, Jal Shakti Department and the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board.

He further informed that overflowing water from a drain entered residential areas in Sultanpur, completely damaging two houses while several other homes were flooded with water and debris. Teams from the SDM office and the Municipal Council visited the affected area and provided immediate assistance to the affected families. A comprehensive plan will be prepared to find a permanent solution to the recurring flood-like situation in the area.

Calling this year’s monsoon extremely unfortunate for Chamba, the Deputy Commissioner said nearly 45 people have lost their lives in road accidents so far. Referring to the tragic accident at Lahad near Banikhet on Monday night, he urged people to exercise extra caution during bad weather, avoid travelling late at night whenever possible, stay at safe locations if necessary and refrain from constructing buildings near rivers and streams.
