DC Directs Effective Implementation of SC/ST Act Provisions in Shimla

Shimla, June 18: Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap chaired a meeting of the District Level Vigilance and Monitoring Committee to review the implementation of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989. The meeting reviewed registered cases, relief and rehabilitation assistance for victims, pending cases, and awareness initiatives being undertaken by various departments.

The Deputy Commissioner directed officials to ensure effective implementation of the Act and timely disposal of atrocity-related cases. He informed that 48 cases under the Act have remained pending in Shimla district from 2018 to May 2026. He also stressed timely relief to eligible beneficiaries and enhanced public awareness programmes. Panchayat representatives will be trained on the provisions of the Act to help spread legal awareness and support victims in seeking justice.

Officials informed the committee that relief assistance ranging from ₹85,000 to ₹8.25 lakh is available to victims under various provisions of the Act.
