Congress Ignored Public Sentiment in Dohandi Ward: Jairam Thakur

2 min read

Mandi, May 6: Leader of Opposition and former Chief Minister Jairam Thakur launched a sharp attack on the Congress government over the developments surrounding the Mandi Municipal Corporation elections, particularly in Behna and Dohandi wards.

Speaking informally with mediapersons in Mandi, Jairam Thakur alleged that the Congress had disrespected public sentiment in Dohandi ward by refusing to honour the collective decision of residents seeking boycott of the elections over local issues and opposition to the inclusion of rural areas in the Municipal Corporation.

He claimed that residents had appealed to all candidates to withdraw their nominations in support of the public stand. According to him, BJP and independent candidates respected the sentiments of the people and reached the SDM Balh office within the stipulated time to withdraw their nominations.

However, he alleged that the Congress candidate did not turn up, which, he said, reflected the party’s disregard for public opinion. “Congress has played a political game with the people of Dohandi ward, and the public will respond through their votes,” he remarked.

The former Chief Minister said that when the BJP government constituted the Mandi Municipal Corporation, assurances had been given that concerns of rural residents would be addressed if any inconvenience arose after inclusion in the civic body.

He accused the present Congress government of ignoring the issue and “imposing elections” without resolving the concerns of affected residents. He further alleged that the people now feel betrayed by the government.

Jairam Thakur also urged voters in Dohandi ward to question the Congress candidate on why she did not stand with the collective sentiments of the people by withdrawing her nomination.
