2 min read

Shimla: Chief Minister Sukkhu has initiated his election campaign for the Shimla Parliamentary constituency from the remote area of Dodra-Kwar in Shimla district. Launching a scathing attack on the BJP, the Chief Minister stated that despite their attempts to seize power through financial means, they have failed in their intentions. He affirmed that the people of the state will surely punish the BJP for their attempts to destabilize the government, ensuring that all four Lok Sabha seats in the state will belong to the Congress party. He further accused the BJP of trying to buy off Congress MLAs and cross-voting against the Congress candidate in the Rajya Sabha elections. Sukkhu also criticized the BJP for their attempts to topple the state government using money power. He emphasized that leaders who can be bought are never true servants of the people.

The Chief Minister highlighted the achievements of the state government, including the passing of the budget with provisions for welfare schemes benefiting the common people. He mentioned the Indira Gandhi Priyadarshini Bhaina Samman Nidhi scheme, under which women above 18 years of age are provided with a monthly pension of Rs 1500, and the procurement of milk at minimum support price, making Himachal Pradesh the first state in the country to do so. Additionally, he announced increased subsidies for apple growers and the implementation of the Universal Carton scheme to strengthen the economy of orchardists.

Responding to the allegations made by the opposition, Sukkhu asserted that the BJP has always discriminated against Shimla district. He criticized BJP MP Suresh Kashyap for not contributing any funds for the development of areas like Thiog, Rohru, Jubbal-Kotkhai during his tenure. He also accused the BJP of abolishing subsidies on pesticides and fertilizers during their previous government, resulting in losses for apple growers. Moreover, he condemned the reduction of import duties on apples by the central government, leading to further losses for apple growers in the state. Sukkhu concluded by expressing confidence in winning all four Lok Sabha seats in Himachal Pradesh and assured that he will continue to work for the welfare of the people, just like his father, KD Sultanpuri, who served as MP for six terms.
