Public Anger Rising Against Congress Government Due to Anti-People Policies
Mandi, May 08: Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur launched a sharp attack on the Congress government in Himachal Pradesh, alleging that public resentment against the government’s anti-people policies and failures has been steadily growing and would reflect in the upcoming Panchayati Raj and local body elections.
Addressing an organisational meeting of the Seraj BJP Mandal at Janjehli, Jai Ram Thakur said the Congress government had failed to deliver development works during its three-and-a-half-year tenure. He said people should question Congress leaders about why development projects have come to a standstill and why institutions opened during the BJP government were shut down.
The Leader of Opposition alleged that the state government tried its best to delay Panchayati Raj and Municipal elections under the pretext of the disaster situation, but the election process had to begin after the matter reached the Supreme Court. According to him, the government wanted to avoid elections because it had no achievements to present before the people.
Jai Ram Thakur further claimed that development work in the state was continuing only because of financial assistance from the Centre and 191 centrally sponsored schemes, while the state government lacked funds to execute projects from its own budget. He expressed concern that funds available for village development under the VBG Ram Ji scheme could not be utilised due to the absence of Panchayats, depriving people of developmental benefits.
Targeting the Chief Minister, he said blaming BJP leaders and the Central Government would not reduce the state government’s accountability. He demanded answers regarding stalled development, inadequate compensation for disaster-affected families, and the lack of improvement in essential services such as healthcare and drinking water supply.
He also remarked that the Chief Minister was hesitant to face the public, which, according to him, reflected the government’s declining credibility among the people.
During the meeting, discussions were also held regarding organisational strengthening, booth-level mobilisation and election strategy. Jai Ram Thakur expressed confidence that BJP would register a massive victory in the upcoming elections.
