Anti-Drug Awareness Rally to Be Held in Hamirpur on August 27

Street plays, music performances to spread message of ‘Drug-Free Hamirpur’

Hamirpur, August 24: A special anti-drug awareness programme and rally will be organised in Hamirpur on August 27 under the state government’s campaign against ‘Chitta’ and other drugs.

The programme, being organised on the initiative of the district administration, will begin at around 4 pm at Gandhi Chowk. Youth aged 15 to 29 years, government employees and representatives of various organisations are expected to participate.

Deputy Commissioner Gandharva Rathore reviewed the preparations with officials from various departments and educational institutions on Monday.

The programme will begin with music performances and street plays by local artists highlighting the harmful effects of ‘Chitta’ and other addictive substances. Students and young participants will then take out an awareness rally from Gandhi Chowk to the School Ground.

A pledge against drug abuse will also be administered at the School Ground.

The Deputy Commissioner directed the Education Department, Youth Services and Sports Department, MY Bharat Centre, Social Justice and Empowerment Department and other agencies to ensure maximum participation of young people.

Rathore said public awareness and active participation, particularly among youth, are essential to tackling the drug menace and building a drug-free Hamirpur.
