Adopt Swadeshi in every walk of life: Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar

Dharamsala, Nov 1 – Himachal Pradesh Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar has called upon all the people to adopt Swadeshi in every walk of life to build a self-reliant India. He said that adopting indigenous products, motivates others to do the same.
He spoke as the chief guest at the one-day workshop organized on the topic ‘Role of Mathematician Radhanath Sikdar in India’s Freedom Struggle’ in the series of programs of the Amrit Festival of Independence and the closing ceremony of various activities which lasted for a month under the Amrit Festival of Independence.
This program was organized by Vigyan Bharati in association with the Union Ministry of Culture in association with Central University Dharamsala and Government Degree College Dharamsala at Trigart Auditorium, Dharamsala in a series of programs of Amrit Mahotsav of Independence.
The Governor said that we have the ability to guide the whole world while moving ahead on the path of India’s rich tradition and knowledge. He further said that it was necessary that we create and awaken our ‘Self’. He said that no one will stop us from moving ahead with the awakening of ‘Self-Language, Country, History, Tradition and Culture’.
Arlekar said that history is witness that all the invaders who came from outside attacked the ‘self’ of India. They destroyed our way of life so that we could not come forward as a nation. But now history is turning.
He said that India will become a golden lion in the coming 25 years.
The Governor said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed confidence in the nectar of independence that the next 25 years till the centenary year of India’s independence will be of new construction of the country. The Governor called upon all the people to work with the goal of 25 years.
He said that India will no longer have to make efforts to make a golden bird but a golden lion, so that India will be a guide for the whole world.
Arlekar said that there is a need to show direction to the younger generation. They need to be told what achievements have been made by our great ancestors like Mathematician Shri Radhanath Sikdar in every field of life including science. The height of life can be found by following in his footsteps.
He appreciated Vigyan Bharati and the entire organizing committee for organizing the event.
The Governor felicitated seven mountaineers of Himachal who had scaled Mount Everest specially invited in the program. These included ITBP DIG Prem Singh, BSF Assistant Commandant Ravi Kant Negi, ITBP Chief Constable Pradeep, Radha Devi, Dikki Dolma, Baljit Kaur and Praveen.
On this occasion, the Governor also honored the winners of the month-long competitions.
A short film on the life and work of India’s great mathematician Shri Radhanath Sikdar was screened in the program. The film showcased his remarkable intellect and mathematical calculation talents and achievements. Born on October 5, 1813, Shri Radha Nath Sikdar was the first to find out the exact height of Mount Everest by mathematical calculations without climbing Everest. He died in the year 1870.
Apart from this, a film prepared on the Amrit Mahotsav of Azadi was also shown in the program.
Dr. Anil D. Sahasrabuddhe, former President of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), who was present as the keynote speaker in the program and currently Professor of IIT Guwahati, delivered a lecture on the contribution of Indians in the field of science.
He said that science has spread all over the world from India itself. India has given fundamental theorems in many other fields including mathematics, physics. He it was mentioned in our Vedas and Upanishads. But due to constant attack we have forgotten our golden history. He said that then the British imposed education system deprived us of the true identity of India.
Professor Sahasrabuddhe mentioned the contribution of scientific genius in the upliftment of India. He said that today the talent of the people of Indian origin is ringing in the world. From NASA to big software companies, Indian talent dominates.
In the next 25 years, he urged all the people to protect the environment and move forward by using science properly in life to make India a world leader again.
On this occasion, Praveen Ramdas, National Secretary, Vigyan Bharti said that Vigyan Bharti is working to take the science born in our country to the society and to create a sense of pride among the people regarding the contribution of the scientists of their country. Efforts are being made to bring the contribution of Indian scientists in the freedom struggle of India in front of the society, in association with the Union Ministry of Culture in the Amrit Mahotsav of Azadi.
Professor Shashi Kumar Dhiman, Vice Chancellor of Himachal Pradesh Technical University, in his presidential address called upon everyone to move forward in the direction of science. He expressed confidence that India will guide the world by attaining its ancient glory in Amritkal.
In the program, the Director of the Union Ministry of Culture, Priyanka Chandra said that a series of programs have been organized across the country by the Ministry in the Amrit Festival of Independence. So far, more than 1 lakh programs have been organized with public participation.
