Banks Urged to Strengthen Financial Inclusion in Mandi
Mandi, September 23: Additional Deputy Commissioner Priyanshu Khati has urged banks to play an active role in promoting financial inclusion, expanding agricultural credit and supporting self-employment opportunities.
Chairing a meeting of the District Level Review Committee, District Advisory Committee and RSETI at the DRDA auditorium, Khati reviewed banking performance, the Annual Credit Plan, RSETI and Kisan Credit Card schemes for the first quarter of 2026-27.
He directed banks to organise regular financial literacy camps during Gram Sabhas to educate villagers about banking services, digital transactions and social security schemes. Banks were also asked to resolve pending NRLM cases promptly and facilitate timely credit to self-help groups.
The meeting highlighted the Dr Yashwant Singh Parmar Student Loan Scheme, under which eligible students from families with annual incomes up to Rs 12 lakh can avail education loans of up to Rs 20 lakh at 1% interest.
Under RSETI, 105 youth were trained in four batches during the quarter, while 36,702 Kisan Credit Cards were issued. The district had 1,03,355 KCC holders till June.
Lead Bank Manager Chandra Prakash said banks disbursed Rs 1,789.93 crore against the annual credit plan target of Rs 5,440.45 crore, achieving 32.90% of the target.
