Himachal Plans Efforts to Establish AIIMS Ayurveda in Dhaneta
Shimla, September 23: The Himachal Pradesh government will make efforts to establish an AIIMS Ayurveda institute in the state, with Dhaneta in Hamirpur’s Nadaun area proposed as the site, Ayush Minister Yadvinder Goma said on Wednesday.
Addressing the state-level function marking the 11th National Ayurveda Day at Gaiety Theatre, Goma said the proposed project is estimated at around Rs 1,000 crore. The state has committed to provide about 70 acres of land and Rs 300 crore towards the project, he said, adding that the final approval rests with the Union government.
Goma said the government had allocated Rs 379 crore for the Ayush sector in the 2026-27 Budget, while Rs 60 crore was provided under the National Ayush Mission. He said Himachal has around 1,241 Ayush institutions and is seeking to expand specialised services, wellness tourism and skill development.
He said one-year Panchakarma technician training is being conducted at 14 Ayurvedic hospitals for around 250 youth.
Ayush Secretary A. Shainamol said Ayush OPD attendance increased from about 25.30 lakh in 2021-22 to 36.94 lakh in 2025-26, while admissions to Ayurvedic hospitals rose from 3.56 lakh to 6.74 lakh during the period.
A three-day Ayurveda exhibition is also being held at Shimla’s Ridge from September 23 to 25.
