Cultural Traditions and Heritage Essential to Keeping Society United: Dr. Shandil

Solan, September 15: Health and Family Welfare, Social Justice and Empowerment and Sainik Welfare Minister Col. (Dr.) Dhaniram Shandil said that staying connected with one’s culture and traditions is essential for maintaining social unity.

Addressing the gathering at the ‘Baghati Day’ celebration organised by Baghati Social Organisation Solan at Bruri, Dr. Shandil said Baghati culture, language, folk traditions and customs are an integral part of the region’s rich cultural heritage. He emphasised that their preservation and promotion is a collective responsibility.

Dr. Shandil said such events provide the younger generation an opportunity to connect with their cultural roots and appreciated the Baghati Social Organisation for its efforts towards preserving and promoting Baghati culture. He urged local residents to introduce future generations to their language, traditions, local cuisine and other aspects of their cultural heritage.

Earlier, the minister paid floral tribute to the statue of Late Raja Durga Singh on his 124th birth anniversary.

Dr. Shandil announced a contribution of Rs. 21,000 from his discretionary fund to the Baghati Social Organisation. President of the organisation Rajesh Thakur welcomed the chief guest.

During the event, participants discussed the Baghati dialect, folk culture, traditions and customs that are gradually disappearing. The organisation also honoured individuals for their outstanding contributions.
