Anurag Thakur Reviews Centrally Sponsored Schemes, Directs Officials to Work with Clear Targets

Says reaching maximum benefits to poor and needy should be the key measure of performance

Una, September 2: Member of Parliament Anurag Thakur chaired a meeting of the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) in Una on Wednesday and reviewed the implementation of various Centrally Sponsored Schemes and major projects being executed with Central assistance.

Thakur directed officials to work with a strong sense of accountability towards their departments, the state government and the public, and make it a priority to ensure that the maximum benefits of government schemes reach poor and needy people. He stressed the need for setting clear targets, fixing timelines and regularly assessing progress.

During the meeting held at the District Council Conference Hall, the MP also reviewed the progress of key projects being implemented in Una with Central assistance. He directed officials to ensure timely and effective utilisation of available funds, stressing that resources must be used efficiently and benefits delivered to eligible beneficiaries without delay.

MP LAD works to be completed by October 15

Thakur reviewed the status of sanctioned and pending works under the Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) and directed the concerned officials to complete them on priority. He asked Block Development Officers to ensure completion of all pending works within the next 45 days, by October 15, and submit a report.

Schemes to be publicised up to the panchayat level

The MP directed the Departments of Agriculture, Horticulture, Agricultural Marketing and Panchayati Raj to coordinate with elected representatives of Panchayati Raj Institutions and conduct panchayat-wise awareness campaigns.

He said information regarding eligibility, benefits and application procedures for various Central and state government schemes should be disseminated widely so that all eligible people can avail themselves of the benefits.

Effective action against illegal mining

To strengthen control over illegal mining, Thakur directed the concerned departments to further improve monitoring and enforcement mechanisms. He emphasised greater use of modern technology, including drones, for effective surveillance of sensitive areas.

Special attention to road project alignments

While reviewing road projects, Thakur directed officials to pay special attention to project alignments. He stressed that technical aspects should be thoroughly assessed while keeping future requirements, traffic movement and local conditions in mind during road construction.

Displeasure over delay in PGI Satellite Centre

During a review of the under-construction PGI Satellite Centre at Malahat, Thakur expressed displeasure over the delay in the project. He sought details from the executing agency and PGI management regarding the progress of work and reasons for the delay, and stressed the need for timely completion.

The concerned agency assured that the project would be completed and handed over by December 2026.

Bulk Drug Park and other major projects reviewed

Thakur also reviewed the progress of the Bulk Drug Park being developed in the Haroli area. He sought updates on major ongoing and proposed projects in Una being implemented with Central assistance, including the four-lane project from Bihadu to Lathiani, the PGI Satellite Centre at Malahat and the proposed IG Ethanol Plant at Jeetpur Behri.

Health and social welfare schemes reviewed

The MP directed the Health Department to coordinate with educational institutions and organise awareness programmes for students on diseases such as tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS. He also sought detailed information on the number of beneficiaries under the Sahara Scheme, along with the eligibility criteria and conditions applicable under the scheme.

Reviewing sanitation facilities in slum areas, he asked the concerned department to provide details of the number of toilets available and constructed in proportion to the population to enable an assessment of the actual situation.

Smart meters and PM Surya Ghar scheme reviewed

Thakur reviewed the progress of smart meter installation in the district and directed officials to educate consumers in areas where smart meters have already been installed about their functioning and benefits, with the aim of building public confidence.

He also sought feedback from the public on the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana and information on practical difficulties being faced in its implementation.

Public representatives offer suggestions

Former minister Virendra Kanwar, former Chintpurni MLA Balbir Chaudhary and Zila Parishad Chairman Pawan Lambardar, among other members, placed several important suggestions related to development issues before the committee and highlighted the requirements of their respective areas.
