Workshop on “Daan Utsav: Initiative and Sustained Contribution to Society” Held at RKMV

Shimla, August 31, 2026: A one-day workshop on “Daan Utsav: An Initiative and Sustained Contribution to Society” was organised at Rajkiya Kanya Mahavidyalaya (RKMV), Shimla, in collaboration with the renowned NGO Goonj.

College Principal Dr. Anurita Saxena said the workshop aimed to sensitise students towards social responsibility, sustainable living, recycling and meaningful contribution to society. Sharing her experiences, she highlighted various sustainable and socially responsible initiatives being undertaken at the college and appreciated Goonj’s efforts to promote a culture of dignified giving and sustainability.

Special emphasis was placed on the concept of “giving with dignity.” The Goonj team explained that contributing to society is not merely about donating unused items, but also about ensuring that resources reach those in need while preserving their dignity. The team also elaborated on Goonj’s initiatives and explained how surplus and discarded materials can be repurposed to address community needs.

The session was addressed by Khushboo, Abhishek and P. K. Ahluwalia from Goonj. They interacted with the students and explained the organisation’s philosophy and working methodology.

Dr. Anurita Saxena assured the Goonj team that the college would actively participate in the Daan Utsav initiative during the second week of October. She said the college regularly strives to organise programmes that help students understand their responsibilities towards society and encourage them to contribute towards building a community rooted in social and human values, compassion and sensitivity.

A large number of students and members of the college community attended the workshop.
