Celebrating Saawan: RKMV Shimla Blends Tradition, Culture and Monsoon Cheer

Rajkiya Kanya Mahavidyalaya (RKMV), Shimla, celebrated a vibrant Saawan Festival organised by the Women Cell, bringing students closer to Indian culture, folk traditions and the beauty of the monsoon season.

Principal Dr. Anurita Saxena highlighted the religious and ecological significance of Saawan, encouraging students to connect devotion with environmental responsibility and plant trees as a gesture of respect for nature. She also emphasised cleanliness and preventive care during the monsoon to avoid water-borne diseases.

The celebration featured captivating Shiv Stuti, Garba and Ghoomar performances by students of the Dance Department, along with a Mehendi Competition. BCA student Preeti secured first position, B.Voc student Parul stood second, BA second-year student Swati third, BA third-year student Varsha fourth and MA first-year student Reena fifth.

The event saw enthusiastic participation from students, faculty and members of the college community, turning the monsoon celebration into a colourful blend of tradition, creativity and environmental awareness.
