18-Tonne Weight Limit Imposed on Heavy Vehicles on Aut-Jalori Route
Kullu, August 24: District Magistrate Kullu Surjeet Singh Rathore has imposed an immediate restriction on the movement of heavy vehicles weighing more than 18 tonnes on the Aut-Jalori section of NH-305, citing public safety and structural safety of bridges.
The order has been issued under Section 115 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. The restriction applies to four bridges between Aut and Jalori—Segil Bazar Bridge, Phagu Bridge, Mangalore Bridge and Larji Bridge.
The District Magistrate said movement of vehicles exceeding the prescribed load capacity could compromise bridge safety and pose risks to commuters and the general public.
The NH Division, HPPWD Kullu, and SDPO Banjar have been directed to install prominent signage and barricading at both ends of the Aut-Jalori route and clearly display the maximum permissible load limit of 18 tonnes.
Ambulances, police vehicles, fire tenders and other emergency service vehicles will, however, be allowed to use the bridges, subject to prevailing safety conditions.
The SDM Banjar, Executive Engineer, NH Division HPPWD Kullu and SDPO Banjar have been directed to ensure strict compliance with the order and make necessary arrangements for traffic regulation or diversion wherever required.
